Skein

Beta features

Join an early-access feature before it ships to everyone, and leave it again.

Some features ship to a few people first. You choose whether you're one of them.

Join a beta

Open Settings → Beta features. Each open beta has its name, a stage badge (Concept, Alpha, Beta, or Released), a short description, and sometimes a Learn more link. Turn its switch on to join. The change applies right away.

If no betas are open, the page says so. Check back after the next release.

Leave a beta

Turn the feature's switch off. Skein goes back to the standard behavior.

Why it asks for usage analytics

Joining a beta is recorded against your install ID, so the page needs Share usage analytics on. When it's off, the page shows Turn on usage analytics instead of the list. Clicking it turns analytics on, the same as the toggle in Settings → Privacy (see Privacy). If you turn analytics off later, any betas you joined turn off too.

Feature flags

Skein also uses remote feature flags to roll features out gradually or switch a misbehaving one off. These need Crash & error reports or Share usage analytics on. With both off, Skein uses its built-in defaults. See Telemetry & privacy for exactly what the flag check sends.
